Upgrade Testing

Wyvil will come-up with a detailed testing strategy/plan for a thourough testing during and after upgrade that would meet the requirements out-lined in BRD

As per the best practices Wyvil Systems follows and adapts, the following five different types of tests will be performed at various phases in the Upgrade project.
  • Functional Unit Tests
  • String Tests or Cross functional Tests
  • Integration tests
  • Prototype tests (with Interfaces plugged)
  • Stress Tests
The following table shows the timing of the tests as also the team involvements:
Test Project Phase
Functional Unit tests Analysis Phase
String Tests Analysis Phase
Integration Tests Repair & testing Phase
Interface Tests Repair & testing Phase
Stress Tests Repair & testing Phase/Cutover Phase
Unit tests:
The existing scripts will drive the test scenarios for this phase of the test, available from the earlier SAP implementation. Wyvil recommends the use of the results of the RBE to identify active and commonly used transactions.

String Tests/Cross Functional tests
In this stage of testing, business cycles cutting across more than one module are tested for its integrated working. This supposes that Unit tests have been successfully executed. Any showstoppers at this stage can lead to a re-look at the customizing settings or a change management.
It is expected that the consultants working closely with the end users/business analysts will be able to arrive at a representative string test script.

The Integration test
is to a large extent a simulation of the day to day business transactions performed by the end users with the custom transactions and custom development objects embedded in the end to end processes.

Interfaces Tests
This is another important test that need to be handled thoroughly. It is common in most organizations to interface the SAP Applications to third party best of breed software or to home grown legacy applications. The Interfaces can be real time or can work in batch mode. The interfaces can be pushing data to SAP or flushing data out of SAP or can be bi-directional.

Regression tests
These tests confirm that the SAP system functions properly and that the system is reliable, built according to the design and operate as intended.

Stress Tests
These tests are done for the systematic verification and analysis of realistic simulated business process performance on a given system. It verifies if the system is functioning properly and that it can handle normal and peak traffic loads.
